More about Academic Camp Canada

Senior naturalist will visit our oceanfront camp to give a guest lecture to students on conservation of Oceans

For our Friday afternoon lectures we will welcome speakers from all different areas of academia, industry and the wider community to give our students an enriched experience. Previously we informed you about the visit of University of Victoria visiting as our first guest speaker; they will talk all about University life, different subjects, career paths and more!

For our next guest speaker we are very excited to announce a visit from Rachael Merrett a Senior Naturalist from Vancouver Island. What is a naturalist I hear you say? A naturalist is an expert in natural wildlife, in Rachael's case she is expert in oceans, ocean conservation and also whales! Students will learn from the best as our guest speaker will educate our students on Ocean science, telling them about conservation, both in the wider picture of the challenges our oceans face at the moment including mass plastic pollution. Students will learn a bit our the wildlife of British Columbia before their much anticipated Whale Watching trip with Orca Spirit the following week! We hope you are as excited as we are!

Collaboration with the University of Victoria

For our Friday afternoon lectures we will welcome speakers from the University of Victoria. Speakers with experience in higher education across the world including North America and Asia and have strong backgrounds in Social Sciences, Elementary Education and Engineering will teach our students all about University life, what students typically study at university, potential career paths (including medicine and law), study abroad, field schools, and much more.

Going for an accreditation

We have teamed up with the British Colombia Camping Association, the organisation which regulate camps and provide recognition and accreditation for camps with high standards. Keeping standards high and health and safety are very important to us for all, particularly for our students and staff, as a result we have decided to complete the accreditation at Brentwood college school in our very first year!
